A Journey of Mind and Emotion through New Classical Music

Neo Camerata and the Music of Mark Landson

Emotionally Stirring - Technically Impressive

Neo Camerata performs new classical music by award winning composer Mark Landson which combines the emotion and beauty of classical, the excitement and energy of pop, and the awe-inspiring technique of virtuoso musicians. Critics have called it a “genre-busting,” “technically impressive,” “emotionally stirring” and “totally cool and amazing” experience.

Formed in 2003, the group has performed at the Cannes Film Festival, the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and on the bill with orchestras and pop singers.

After a seven year hiatus, the group was re-formed by Landson and went on a 32 city tour in 2015 with the rock band Say Anything, also playing 25 classical concerts along the way.

Neo Camerata again hits the road in 2017, partnering with Landson’s organization “Open Classical” and also “Music In Familiar Spaces” to bring the music and experience to multiple cities across the US.

Mark Landson, composer/viola/violin
Mark Landson has been recognized as “One of the Top 100 Creatives in Dallas” and an “Arts Entrepreneur Forward Thinker” in his work as Director of Open Classical. As composer, his new classical compositions have been praised as “Stravinsky at his most lyrical”, and “a unique combination of pop inspiration and classical craft”.

Landson’s compositions take the audience on a journey of emotions, melding the techniques of classical composition with infectious melodies, contemporary pop harmonic language and rhythmic drive.

Recent commissioned works include the operetta “Goldilocks” (Dec 2015), ballet “Le Mozart Noir” (Feb 2016), and cello sonata (April 2017). In December, 2016, his string quartet “Travels” took first place at the “The Ear” in New York, a competition in New York where the audience is asked which piece they want to hear again.

Award winning composer and Neo Camerata founder Mark Landson, and pianist Thiago Nascimento recently premiered their beautiful new cello sonatas in Phoenix, Arizona, both comissioned and performed by Neo Camerata cellist Wesley Skinner, with Nascimento himself on the piano.

These stunning, emotionally driven works for cello and piano are both moving and inspiring, each bearing a personality unique to its creator. Landson’s sonata, “Moments In Memory”, mixes catchy melodies, exciting rhythmic patterns and a keen dramatic sense, with a strong command of form and classical craft. Nascimento’s sonata shows a strong influence of his favorite 20th century romantic Rachmaninoff, but takes the Romantic vision to a more current contemporary direction, with just enough influences of pop minimalism to make it poignant.

Skinner and Nascimento toured with Landson’s Neo Camerata in 2015. While most music on the tour was Landson’s, Thiago’s “Cello Preludes” were also presented on some of the concerts. Wesley fell in love with the music of both composers, and when the opportunity arose to commission two cello sonatas for his DMA recital through a grant, he jumped at the chance.

Also on the program is a new suite for piano trio from Landson’s ballet “Le Mozart Noir”, commissioned by Contemporary Ballet Dallas and the Dallas Bach Society, and premiered in February 2016.
